1. Validation

This course syllabus was validated by Syllabus Board for Teacher Education at Södertörn University at Södertörn University on 2018-03-23 according to the stipulations in the Higher Education Ordinance.

2. Entry requirements

60 credits in Social Sciences or Humanities and the equivalent of Upper Secondary course English 6.

3. Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student is able to:

  • describe the structure of the English language
  • to apply and explain grammatical rules in the English language
  • correctly express themself in spoken and written English
  • use and motivate information and communication technology (ICT) choices and aesthetic learning processes in the classroom

  • 4. Course content, modules and examinations

    The course aims to provide knowledge of English grammar and structure to strengthen and develop both verbal and written language proficiency. The course also provides knowledge about aesthetic learning processes and information and communication technology (ICT) in relation to teaching in English.

      Through linguistic analysis, students deepen their knowledge and understanding of English grammar. The course is based on the application and explanation of English grammar.

    5. Course design

    The course includes lectures seminars, and group exercises.

    6. Examination format

    English Language Structure, 7.5 credits:
    - active participation in the seminars and seminar assignments
    - written final exam

    A maximum of two missed seminars may be compensated for with written assignments. Absence from compulsory lectures may be compensated for by a written assignment.

    If the opportunity to supplement an assignment is offered, this shall be submitted within one (1) year of the assignment’s original deadline.
     The grading criteria are distributed prior to the start of a course or module.

    7. Reading list

    If there are changes in the reading list between semesters, a new list for the next semester is to be validated no later than July 15 and December 15 respectively.
